3 tips to keep your teams motivated during COVID-19

The beginning of the lockdown now seems like a distant past. At this point, most of you have triumphed over the technical issues related to remote working: Zoom, Teams and other teleworking software no longer hold any secrets for you!
However, new problems are emerging.
At a time when deconfinement seems both so close and so far away, teleworking not only separates you from your teams, it also risks driving away their motivation. We can therefore make the following observation without hesitation:

More than ever, your employees need to connect to a strong culture.

In this period of uncertainty, it is crucial for a company to show empathy and take advantage of the lockdown to unite its teams. It is the changes you make today that will allow you to strengthen your corporate culture and the commitment of your community.

Here are 3 tips to help you get started.

1. The essential: support and equip

Let’s start at the beginning. First of all, you need to make sure that your employees feel supported in the face of this ordeal. It’s about giving them all the tools they need to continue working efficiently and without frustration. As an employer, you set the pace!
In addition to remote working software, make sure to pass on some good practices to them. For example, you can give them a daily tip on how to plan their workday, communicate with their colleagues, organize their workspace, or manage their work-life balance. If you’re lacking inspiration, don’t panic! You’ll find some very good examples in the teleworking guide published by the Île de France region.
Also consider replacing certain emails with a simple phone call. In addition to encouraging a real exchange with your employee, you will be able to listen to their voice to more easily detect any anxiety related to the current situation.

2. The game: a pretext to get together

Belonging to a community is a fundamental human need. Your role as a unifier has never been more important: you are the guardian of your company’s culture. Strengthen it by creating solid benchmarks. They will improve your employees’ daily work by boosting their motivation.
It’s your turn!
Recreate your company’s rituals using digital technology. Easy to set up, the digital coffee break is an effective way to get to know each other better and relieve the pressure of confinement.
Draw inspiration from your personal experiences and other Skype conversations to find games, tools and ideas that will promote collaboration while making your teams happy:

  • Explorers at heart, do you like challenges? Discover the world together with Geoguessr.
  • Are you a serious company that advocates excellence? Create a shared playlist on Spotify so that your employees can share the music that helps them focus.
  • Is your culture more creative? Reveal the Picassos in your team with Skribbl.io, the online pictonnary.
  • Your teams want to be surprised? Invite a Llama to your next Zoom meeting!

And don’t forget: “Laughter is good for your health!”

3. Focus on online training

Lockdown also meant the end of our weekend football matches, our Tuesday night pottery classes and a good part of our personal projects. Work has taken over and it is becoming increasingly difficult to think about anything else, to escape mentally.
To remedy this, acquiring new skills is an excellent solution. Setting up an environment that allows for professional accomplishment is a great opportunity to stand out as an employer!
The solution? Distance learning! For example, take a look at:

  • Harvard University’s website offers courses in a variety of fields from business to social sciences to art and design.
  • Coursera which offers different training programs developed by more than 190 recognized universities and companies.

Training together not only allows your employees to acquire new skills, but also to strengthen team spirit and corporate culture. Your employees will feel supported, more united than ever, and proud to be part of your team!
